Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity is delighted to partner with Tour de Manc in 2021!

2020 is a year that none of us will forget, and whilst this year’s cycling event has been understandably postponed, we are eagerly awaiting the return of the event next year. We hope participants already signed up for next year’s Tour de Manc will consider fundraising for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity.

Our aim, as a Charity, is to raise funds to enhance the services we provide and the care that we give to over 280,000 patients who use our hospital every year. Our hospital is the largest single-site children’s hospital in the UK, providing world class care for children from across the North West and beyond.

Our young patients come to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital from across the North West but also nationally and internationally. As the largest single site children’s hospital in the UK, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital offers specialist services including bone marrow transplantation and paediatric intensive care.

We want to ensure that not only is Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital the largest children’s hospital in the country – but one of the best.

The funds raised by our Tour de Manc supporters will help provide our patients with excellence in treatment, research and care. With your support we can fund projects like…

Burns Camp

Burn injuries can require years of painful treatments and aftercare and children can face many problems adapting to their scars, rebuilding their self-confidence and reintegrating into a society that isn’t always kind to people who look different.

Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital’s Burns Unit, which is the largest specialist Burns Unit in the UK, runs two week-long, residential Burns Camps each year – one camp for younger children (aged 5-10) and one for older children (aged 11-16). Both camps provide fun activities geared towards rehabilitation and increasing self-esteem.

The cost of sending one child to the camp, as well as the staffing costs, is £1,328, with the support of our donors, we can provide this unique opportunity to 25 children.

Children’s entertainers

Magic Makers, specialist children’s entertainers that come into the hospital and bring smiles and fun to our wards, make a huge difference to the lives of our young patients. They play an important role by providing a welcome distraction from anxiety or from potentially painful or distressing treatments, and offer a child the chance of respite through play and laughter. With the help of our supporters, we can bring this magic to our patients’ bedsides each and every week.

We look forward to meeting you at the event – thank you so much for considering supporting our hospital and the brave children we care for.
